Case Study: Workwear Express Ltd.
Background
QSP Solutions were the consultants used by Workwear Express to implement a Quality Management System in order to streamline operations and gain certification to ISO9001:2000. The Workwear Quality Management System was certified to ISO9001:2000 by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance in June 2007.
The management of Workwear made the decision in September 2008 to improve the management systems further by gaining certification to ISO14001 and OHSAS18001.
QSP Solutions were given the task of developing an Environmental Management System to ISO14001 and a Health and Safety Management System to OHS18001 within Workwear Express. LRQA were again chosen as the certification body.
Our Approach
The decision was made at the beginning of the project by the management team at Workwear Express and QSP Solutions to integrate the new Health and Safety Management System and the Environmental Management System with the existing ISO9001 certified Quality Management System. The project commenced in September 2008.
Critical Success Factors:
In the case of Workwear Express Ltd. our analysis led to the identification of 7 Critical Success Factors:
- An agreed and fully integrated approach to the management systems
- The internal audit system was expanded to include quality, health and safety and environmental requirements
- The documentation and mandatory requirements of ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 were integrated in one Business Manual.
- Management review was integrated to include the necessary actions required by ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS18001.
- Comprehensive quality, health and safety and environmental objectives were established
- Legal requirements for both the Health and Safety Management System and the Environmental Management System were identified in integrated legal registers and legal compliance log.
- The management team within Workwear Express were given comprehensive training in Health and Safety and Environmental Management.
Our Achievements
The following achievements were made:
- Workwear Express were certified to OHSAS18001 in November 2008
- Workwear Express were certified to ISO14001 in January 2009
- The ISO9001:2000 Quality Management System was amended to ISO9001:2008 in March 2009.
- The company have maintained the three International Standards since 2008
